“It’s been a year of growing up,” executive producer Melissa Benoist said of Kara, whose parents divorced in season one and the two have been living together ever since.
“She has grown up in a really rough place.
She’s not in a position to get ahead, but she’s doing the best she can to stay afloat.
Kara has the most unique superpower of all the characters on the show.
She can fly, and she can fly fast.
And she can shoot lightning bolts.
She doesn’t have the best body of work out there.
I’m really proud of her.”
Katniss Everdeen will play Kara’s best friend, Artemis, and the pair’s first love, Thea.
While the show will explore the birth of the superheroine in a few different ways, this first season will feature Kara’s parents’ divorce and the birth and upbringing of the other characters.
“I think the best way to say it is that she’s going to grow up in the middle of a storm,” Benoiste said.
“We have to really explore her early life.
We have to show the early years.
There’s a lot to explore, but we don’t want to do the show in a vacuum.
We want to be a part of it.”
The show will be a return to the comics for the first time in 20 years, with Benoisdale confirming that a second season will follow the events of the comic.
“We are exploring Kara’s origins and her journey, and we want to explore her relationships,” she said.
