Alyssah Milano, 24, was found dead on the side of a New Jersey highway near her mother`s house last month, authorities said.
Her family said she was found by her mother, Mary Ann Milano-Majors, who had been drinking at a nearby restaurant.
Her body was found with no pulse and a belt around her neck, authorities reported.
She was found near a traffic island at the corner of the highway.
Authorities said she may have been intoxicated.
“No, I did not call for assistance,” Milano`s mother said during a news conference on Wednesday.
Police are investigating the death of Milano as a homicide.
Milano had been living in New Jersey, where she had been married and pregnant for three years.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Milanos father said that her death was a tragic loss.
He said he had not heard from his daughter since she was reported missing on March 23.
He also said he wanted to thank the community for their support during the investigation.
Milano was described by her family as a bright, athletic young woman with a strong work ethic who was a mother to four children.
Alyssa was a senior at Rutgers University, graduating in May with a bachelor of arts degree in English.
She loved to dance and would perform with her band at her home in the city of Trenton, New Jersey.
Family members have said Milano lived with her mother in the state`s capital, New York, but police have said they were unable to confirm the information.
